16th Anniversary of Self-Employed Coverage
July 1st 2012 marks the 16th anniversary of self-employed coverage as part of our Social Security system in St. Kitts and Nevis. The Social Security Board continues to take advantage of every signature opportunity to promote this vital area of income protection in our Federation. During the month of July, Social Security officers will be engaging a number of sector stakeholders in educational activities designed to impart knowledge about the coverage and to raise general awareness in relation to issues of importance to self-employed persons.
The Board will be organizing meetings with the various established Self Employed associations including the Contractors Association, Bar Association, Farmers and Fishers along with persons in the wholesale and retail trades sector. The media outlets of the Social Security Board; including the institution’s website and facebook page, along with the established radio and television programs, will seek to disseminate relevant information on an on-going basis.
The Board takes the opportunity to remind all concerned that payments fall under designated ‘classes’ in keeping with the nature of the work being undertaken. Self employed persons are therefore advised to contact the Social Security offices to inquire about the ‘class’ into which their individual cases will be classified.
