Social Security Board Launches Comprehensive Consultative Efforts to Initiate Reform
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, TUESDAY 02ND JULY 2024 – The St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board has begun a series of collaborative meetings in relation to Social Security’s Reform Agenda. The reform measures are aimed at strengthening the Social Security fund, ensuring long-term financial stability, and enhancing benefits for the working population of St. Kitts and Nevis.
This effort underscores the Board’s commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and stakeholder engagement in shaping the future of one of the Nation’s most critical social safety nets.
The consultative process began last month (June) while the Fund’s Actuary Derek Osborne, visited the island.
Mr. Osborne along with the Director of Social Security, Mr. Christopher Louard, conducted a set of targeted meetings with staff, key stakeholders, including but not limited to senior advocacy organizations, labour unions, business associations, the church, the self employed and the general public, to gather specialized input and build collaborative solutions.
For the month of July, the Board plans to delve deeper into public outreach regarding reform with key initiatives designed to create better understanding and appreciation of the fund’s solvency, improve service delivery, and address the changing demographics of the workforce.
Corporate Communications Manager – Ms. Kamilah Lawrence, mentioned that additional initiatives such as community/town hall meetings, social media/online feedback, amongst other community-based activities are underway to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach.
The St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board takes this opportunity to underscore the current solvency of the Fund and assure the public of its commitment to a transparent and responsive approach throughout the reform initiative.
