SOCIAL SECURITY CHRISTMAS CHEER PROJECT
The St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board executed its eleventh consecutive year of distributing care packages through its annual Christmas Cheer Project.
The project aims to deliver food items to some of the most socially vulnerable groups. In this instance, the Christmas Cheer Program catered to the recipients of Social Security’s Assistance Pensions and Invalidity Pensions.
One hundred and forty (140) persons received packages containing Milk, Oats, Vienna Sausages, Tuna, Sardines, Macaroni & Cheese, Crackers, Rice, and Toiletries.
The Social Security Board is cognizant of the importance of providing much needed relief especially at a time as this and saw the immense value of this gesture especially in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“While the holidays have become very different for all of us this year, the hardships caused by COVID-19 would have made it even more out of reach for those who are less fortunate. As a socially responsible Institution, we understood the importance of staying true to our values, offering programs that are meaningful and impactful,” – Tasha Hendrickson, Public Relations Officer.
In recognizing the Board’s initiative, the Hon. Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis shared his unwavering support for Social Security via his Facebook Page. “I love Social Security. They continue to give back to the Federation! May they never grow weary in doing good,” the Premier said.
The sharing of joy through this initiative by the Social Security Board is seen as a welcome gesture geared at raising the quality of the Christmas experience for the worthy recipients at a time when giving and spreading cheer is at the core of the season.
