A SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE FOR ST. KITTS AND NEVIS’ SOCIAL SECURITY
35 Years of Establishing a High Level of
Sustainability, Solidarity and Social Justice
Friday 1st February 2013 marks the 35th Anniversary date of the St. Kitts and Nevis Social Security Fund. This is a very significant milestone in the life of the St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board. It was on this date in 1978 that the Social Security office began operations improving upon the gains of the National Provident Fund which was its fore-runner.
The Social Security Fund has grown by leaps and bounds to become the bulwark of income security and national savings that has enabled our people to benefit both individually through income replacement and collectively as a nation. The Fund now stands at over a billion dollars while injecting directly into the economy of the country via significant long term and short term benefits and increasing investments.
During this time of economic challenge, the Social Security Board has decided to observe the 35th Anniversary without much fanfare. Both offices (on St. Kitts and on Nevis) will engage in a limited number of activities that will mark the occasion.
Following is an outline of the observance events:
- Customer Appreciation Day at Head and Branch Offices – February 8
- Church Service on Nevis on February 10 at the Combermere Methodist Church
- Church Service on St Kitts on February 17 at the St. Georges Anglican Church
- Special Educational Visits to selected places of work and schools
The theme adopted for the anniversary is 35 Years of Sustainability, Solidarity and Social Justice. Throughout the year 2013, the Board will seek to conduct additional educational initiatives and to engender public discussion on relevant matters pertaining to the future path of Social Security.
