ANNIVERSARY CORPORATE WORSHIP ON ST. KITTS
Prime Minister Participates in First Official Event
as Minister of Social Security
On Sunday February 17th, 2013, the Board, Management and Staff of the St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board joined in worship with the parishioners of the St. Georges Anglican Church in Basseterre to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Social Security Fund under the theme, “35 years of Sustainability, Solidarity and Social Justice!”
Participating in and attending his first official event as the new Minister of Social Security was the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. He delivered the New Testament Reading from the book of Romans Chapter 10, verses 5 to 13.
A significant highlight of the Board’s involvement in the morning’s service was a presentation by Social Security which was introduced by Public Relations Manager, Mr. Chesil Hamilton who took the opportunity to publicly acknowledge Mr. Douglas Richardson, the lone surviving member of the first Board of Directors and Mrs. Mavis Amory, the widow of a former Chairman of the Social Security Board, the late Mr. Stanley Amory, who were members of the audience.
The Chairman, Mr. Halva Hendrickson also made brief remarks in which he acknowledged the work and dedication of the former Minister of Social Security, Hon. Sam Terence Condor who was the longest serving Minister of Social Security from 2001 to 2013. The Chairman then took the opportunity to present a monetary gift to the church on behalf of the Institution.
The presentation ended with an instrumental tribute played by Aleks Condell Sr. and his son Aleks Condell Jr. on saxophone and organ respectively; much to the delight of the entire congregation.
The pastoral celebrant was the Rev Canon Isaiah Phillip. In his message for the day, in which he addressed Jesus’ temptation (as chronicled in the Book of Luke) he included words of advice and encouragement to the Social Security Board.
The Board expresses thanks to the people of the Federation for their support over the past 35 years and pledges its commitment to providing meaningful benefits to all eligible persons, guaranteed by sound financial management and efficient administration.
May God continue to bless the Institution for generations to come.
