SOCIAL SECURITY SUPPORTED BREAST CANCER FOUNDATIONS THROUGHOUT THE FEDERATION
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, the St. Christopher & Nevis Social Security Board took action to partner with the local based Breast Cancer Foundations (Reach for Recovery SKB Breast Cancer Group, Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation and Pink Lily Cancer Care Foundation) to participate in their planned activities while focusing on screening, education, support, and hope.
In the midst of a pandemic, the Board was able to seek out the following strategic partnership to help increase awareness and prevention of breast cancer:
1. Reach for Recovery SKB Breast Cancer Group: sponsorship of their annual “Learn at Lunch” event. Learn at Lunch is a free educational and motivational awareness forum scheduled during the traditional lunch hour where a designed speaker is positioned to address the attendees. This year’s speaker, Mr. Tishon Thomas presented on the topic – Unemployment to Entrepreneurship.
Waters Anchors Center for Health & Wellness partnered with Social Security on this event and presented tokens to the attendees.
2. Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation and Pink Lily Cancer Care Foundation: registration of our staff members to attend their annual fundraising walk-a-ton.
Additionally, members of staff wore pink in solidarity for “Wear Pink Friday”, participated in a breast cancer screening initiative – “Meet the Girls” in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Wellpoint Medical & Oncology and the St. Kitts & Nevis Cancer Society. Staff also participated in numerous quizzes internally, with the focus of educating our staff members on the prevention of breast cancer.
“As we observed Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the Social Security Board was proud to support the various Foundations and their initiatives,” said Director of the Social Security Board, Mr. Antonio Maynard. “Most of us know someone who has been or will be affected directly by breast cancer, and collectively we need to support this important work.”
The St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board urges women 40 years and older to talk with their doctors about screening and preventive measures.
